The Impact of Screen Time on Your Health: Striking a Balance in our Screen-Centric World.

In our increasingly digital world, screen time has become a non negotiable in our daily lives. While technology offers numerous benefits, excessive screen time can have adverse effects on our health and well-being, especially when it comes to our eyes. 

The Effects of Excessive Screen Time and What to do Instead:

Eye Strain and Visual Discomfort: Prolonged screen use can lead to eye strain, dryness, blurred vision, and discomfort. Excessive light on the eyes at night time (ie:endless scrolling while in bed) can also disrupt sleep patterns. Incorporate regular breaks (the 20-20-20 rule), practice proper ergonomics, and consider decreasing brightness or a screen cover to cut down on glare to help mitigate these effects.

Physical Inactivity: Excessive screen time often leads to a sedentary lifestyle, contributing to a higher risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and musculoskeletal issues. Encourage regular physical activity, such as exercise breaks, stretching, or incorporating movement throughout your day.

Sleep Disruptions: The artificial light from screens can disrupt the natural sleep-wake cycle, making it harder to fall asleep or achieve restful sleep. Establish a screen-free bedtime routine, limit screen time before bed, and create a sleep-friendly environment for better sleep quality.

Mental Well-being: Excessive screen use, particularly on social media platforms, can negatively impact mental health. Comparison, cyberbullying, and constant connectivity can contribute to feelings of anxiety, depression, and decreased self-esteem.
